The Green Logistics Initiative
Launched in 2019, the Midwest Logistics Green Initiative is our company-wide commitment to decarbonizing global freight. We recognize that logistics is one of the largest contributors to global greenhouse gas emissions, and we believe it's our responsibility β not just our regulators' β to lead the transition to cleaner supply chains.
Our approach is practical and measurable. We don't purchase offsets to paper over emissions. Instead, we invest directly in fleet electrification, route optimization, renewable energy, and carrier qualification programs that reduce actual emissions at the source. Every sustainability claim we make is verified by third-party auditors and disclosed publicly in our annual report.

Our Key Initiatives
Carbon Reduction Roadmap
Our 2030 climate roadmap targets a 40% reduction in Scope 1 and Scope 2 emissions relative to 2019 baseline, driven by fleet electrification, renewable energy procurement, and carrier selection criteria.
Electric & Low-Emission Fleet
We've transitioned 30% of our North American road fleet to electric or hydrogen fuel cell vehicles and are targeting 70% by 2027. Our carrier qualification program now requires minimum Tier 4 engine standards.
AI Route Optimization
Our proprietary routing algorithm reduces total mileage per shipment by an average of 14%, directly cutting fuel consumption and COβ output on every delivery we make.
Packaging Reduction Program
Working with clients to right-size packaging, transition to recycled and compostable materials, and eliminate single-use plastics from our warehousing operations. 68% reduction in warehouse plastic waste since 2021.
Renewable Energy at Facilities
All owned warehouse facilities now operate on 100% renewable energy through a combination of on-site solar installations and renewable energy certificates (RECs). Third-party facilities are required to meet 50% RE targets.
Ocean Freight Slow Steaming
We partner exclusively with ocean carriers participating in slow-steaming programs on long-haul routes, reducing vessel fuel consumption by up to 30% with minimal schedule impact.
Certifications & Standards
ISO 14001:2015
Environmental Management System certification across all owned facilities.
SmartWay Partner
